UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The 10-1 Richmond Football team, which won a share of the CAA Football title, received a No. 4-seed in the NCAA Playoffs and the reigning National Champs host Elon (9-2) Saturday at UR Stadium. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.
Tickets will go on sale Sunday at the Robins Center Ticket Office immediately following the men's basketball home game vs. Chattanooga. Monday, the Robins Center Ticket Office will be open during its normal 9 a.m.-5 p.m. business hours.
Elon finished the regular season 9-2 overall, 7-1 in the Southern Conference and were in second-place behind Appalachian State.
The winner of Saturday's first-round game plays the winner of the App. State/South Carolina State the following Saturday in the quarterfinals. Should the Spiders win, that game would be at UR Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Richmond defeated Elon, 28-10, to open last season and give then rookie head coach Mike London his first career win.
The Spiders were one of four teams from CAA Football to reach the postseason, with both Richmond and Villanova grabbing a top-four seed. Three of the four conference teams are hosting first-round games -- Richmond vs. Elon, Villanova vs. Holy Cross and William & Mary vs. Weber State. The fourth CAA team -- New Hampshire -- travels to McNeese State.
Making its third-consecutive NCAA Playoff appearance and eighth in program history, the Spiders won the 2008 national title, reached the 2007 semifinals and have advanced past the first round in their last four trips.
All-time, Richmond owns a 9-6 record in playoff action (4-2 at home overall and 5-2 in the first round).
