Spiders Play At Cross-Town Rival VCU Today At 2 P.M.

The Spiders continue rivalry week with cross-town foe VCU today at 2 p.m. at the Siegel Center.
Of Note:
An early 12-2 second-half run lifted Richmond (6-2) over William & Mary (4-3), 60-47 Thursday night at Kaplan Arena. Three Spiders scored in double figures as Richmond secured its third straight win over the Tribe. Redshirt junior Kara Powell tied a career-high with a team-best 15 point-performance Thursday night. Junior Brittani Shells grabbed a team and season-high five steals in the win.
The Spiders shot a season-high 8-for-21 from long range against the Tribe, with senior Danielle Bell leading the pack with a game-best 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Bell scored a season-high 14 points. Bell has sunk a team-best 12 three-pointers.
VCU is the fifth CAA opponent the Spiders face this season. Richmond is 3-1 versus the CAA, with wins over George Mason, Hofstra and William & Mary.
Since the 2005-06 season, the home team has recorded the win in the cross-town showdown. Richmond head coach Michael Shafer is 2-2 against the Rams, while VCU head coach Beth Cunningham is 2-4 against the Spiders. The only overtime recorded in the series was a 76-74 double overtime win by the Rams in 2005.
In six of eight games this season, the Spiders have notched four double-digit steal performances. Richmond forced 24 William & Mary turnovers--the most of any Spider opponent this season.
