RICHMOND - Former Richmond DE Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. will represent the Spiders at this week's NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Ind., beginning his four-day schedule Friday, Feb. 20. Television coverage, including workouts and behind-the-scenes footage from the newly-built Lucas Oil Stadium, can be seen throughout the week and weekend on the NFL Network and NFL Network HD.
Sidbury, one of 49 defensive linemen at the event, will be part of Group 8 and wearing "DL47" on his workout clothing. He will have hospital pre-exams and other similar first-day orientation Friday.
His second and third-day schedules will include measurements, more medical examinations, media sessions, psychological testing, NFL Players Association meetings and more interviews with NFL team personnel.
Sidbury ended his college career in memorable fashion, racking up four of Richmond's seven sacks as the Spiders rolled to a 24-7 win over Montana in the NCAA Division I National Championship game. Anchored by the Cheltenham, Md. native, Richmond limited Montana to just 39 yards rushing and to its lowest point total in more than two seasons.
The senior collected 11.5 sacks in 2008, which ranks third on the Spiders' single-season list, while his 20.5 career sacks ranks fourth all-time at Richmond. Sidbury was a 2008 CAA Football First Team selection, named the College Sporting News Playoff Most Valuable Player and was a Sports Network All-America pick.
Sidbury becomes the second-consecutive Spider at the Combine, joining former WR Arman Shields who competed last season. Shields was drafted in the fourth round by Oakland and spent last season on the injured reserve list.
Nearly 300 of the top college football players participate in the NFL Scouting Combine. Top Executives, Coaching Staffs, Player Personnel Departments and Medical Personnel from all 32 NFL teams are on hand to evaluate the eligible players for the upcoming NFL Draft.
