Women Fifth, Men Sixth At A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championship

KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Amy Van Alstine medaled twice for the Spiders, helping the women's team to a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, which concluded Saturday at Rhode Island. The men finished sixth.
Van Alstine captured the silver medal in both the mile (4:53.64) and the 3,000m (9:57.50). Nicol Traynor also scored points in the 3,000m, finishing fourth (10:00.55), while Aylssa Mankin was fifth in the mile (5:02.85). Mankin added a sixth-place finish in the 1,000m in a time of 3:03.21.
The men were led by Sean Welsh, who was second in the mile (4:17.44) and also posted a sixth-place finish in the 1,000m (2:31.52). Garrett Graham took sixth (4:20.68) in the mile
Jeff Strojny was the silver-medalist in the 1,000m and was one of two Spiders to score in the event (along with Welsh). Strojny was clocked at 2:29.28.
Three Spiders scored in the 3,000m, led by Matt Llano's bronze-medal finish. Llano crossed the tape in 8:33.76, while Tim Quinn was fifth (8:37.50) and Tim Smith was sixth (8:37.78).
Also for the women, Megan Ney was fifth in the high jump (1.60m) and seventh in the triple jump (11.31m). X'auntasia Johnson took fifth in the triple jump (11.72m). Samella Koroma collected an eighth-place finish in the shot put (12.29m).
