Women's Lacrosse Stopped By William & Mary

Senior Mandy Friend scored a team-high three goals and senior Allison Furstenburg dished a team-high four assists, but the Spiders fell to William & Mary 19-11, Monday night.
The Tribe struck first with two goals within the first five minutes of play by Grace Golden. Richmond responded with two goals of its own from freshman Jules Nicola, both assisted by Furstenburg. William & Mary pulled ahead 5-2 after three consecutive goals in the next seven minutes of play.
Richmond again answered with three goals of its own to knot the score at 5-all. Freshman Mary Flowers scored two of the three goals, and Friend added the other with 9:31 remaining in the half.
The Tribe then exploded with six unanswered goals to take an 11-5 lead at the half. The Spiders opened the second half with three quick goals, with Friend recording one goal and Furstenburg adding two. William & Mary answered back with three goals of its own to take a 14-8 advantage.
Fifield scored off a Mary Flowers pass to cut the deficit to 14-9. The Tribe pushed their advantage back to 16-9 after two goals a couple minutes later. Sophomore Anne Ryan scored on another Flowers assist to cut the gap to 16-10, but it would not be enough as William & Mary went on to outscore the Spiders 4-1 in the last five minutes.
Richmond hosts St. Bonaventure Friday for its first Atlantic 10 game of the season. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
