UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The women's lacrosse team opens Atlantic 10 conference play with St. Bonaventure Friday at 3 p.m. The Spiders continue their weekend with Duquesne Sunday at noon.
Senior Mandy Friend scored a team-high three goals and senior Allison Furstenburg dished a team-best four assists but the Spiders fell to William & Mary, 19-11 Monday night. Friend leads the team and conference with 27 goals. Furstenburg follows closely with 26 goals and a team-high 12 assists.
St. Bonaventure is coming off a 19-5 victory over Niagara. Sophomore Christine Hanley and junior Molly Hastrich each scored five goals apiece.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be back at home for these first two conference games," said assistant coach Allison Nuzzi. "St. Bonaventure and Duquesne are teams that we've built a healthy rivalry and I am confident that our seniors are itching to get a piece of every opponent we play from here on out. This team is one of the most talented squads I have seen come through the University of Richmond and I have so much faith in them to get the job done starting this weekend."
Senior Lexie Marrocco scored with 10 seconds left to lift the Spiders over the Bonnies, 10-9 last April. Richmond holds a 5-2 advantage in the series.
