HARRISONBURG, Va. -
The women's tennis team (14-4) dominated in-state rival, JMU 7-0 yesterday in Harrisonburg. The Spiders have won eight of their last 10 matches.
In doubles action, the Spiders cruised with Ashlee Vosters/Erin Clark defeating Leah DeMasters/Rebecca Erickson, 8-1 while No. 2 Xenia Schneider/Kelly Maxwell edged Kristin Nimitz/Kinsey Pate, 8-6. Pamela Duran/Catherin Crystal defeated Maxwell/Anna Khoor, 8-2.
"We are still tweaking our doubles team's in search of the best chemistry," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "The doubles point has been elusive in crucial matches. We will need it down the stretch."
In singles play, No. 1 Clark defeated Pate 6-2, 6-2 whiule No. 2 Xenia Schneider came back and defeated Maxwell 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. Isabel Arana defeated Barrett Donner 7-6 (3), 6-4.
"Our team is so deep that we held Pamela Duran out of the No. 1 spot and made everyone step up to a higher position," said Wesselink. "Erin played aggressively and was able to dictate at the top spot. Kelly, Helen and Joanna also responded to the challenge with wins. Xenia and Isabel both proved they are capable of winning when we need them with solid victories."
