Four Spiders Earn All-Conference Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
Seniors Allison Furstenburg and Mandy Friend were selected to the All-Conference First Team, while freshmen Sam Tajirian garnered All-Rookie honors. Furstenburg earned her second-straight Offensive Player of the Year award after helping the Spiders to a No. 2 seed in this week's Atlantic 10 Tournament.
Furstenburg leads the Spiders in goals (49), assists (25) and points (74). The two-time A-10 Player of the Week scored a team-high four goals in the win over Saint Joseph's this past Sunday. Furstenburg has scored in every game this season, including 13 multi-goal games with 11 hat tricks. She has twice been named to the All-Conference First Team.
In addition to first team honors, Friend was selected as the 2009 Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year. Friend enters the A-10 Tournament as the Spiders' second leading scorer with 42 goals and 18 assists. Friend is a two-time A-10 Midfielder of the Year and currently ranks in the top 10 in all categories for offensive stats. This is her fourth straight year as an All-Conference first team selection. Friend boasts a 3.40 grade point average and majors in leadership studies.
Fifield, a freshman from North Baylon, N.Y. earned All-Rookie honors as Richmond's third leading scorer. Fifield is third in goals (35) and ground balls (23) and first in draw controls (51). Fifield was named A-10 Rookie of the Week (3/30) after scoring a career-high four goals in each of its wins of the week. Fifield has scored a career-best four goals three times this season.
In addition to Fifield, Tajirian, a freshman from Springfield, Pa., also earned All-Rookie honors. Tajirian has scored 12 goals and recorded 19 draw controls on the year. Tajirian scored a career-high three goals in the double-overtime win over Duquesne this past March.
Richmond faces Saint Joseph's Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
