
Men's Golf Climbs To Fifth After Two Rounds Of A-10 Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Richmond men's golf team moved up to fifth place after the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, played Saturday at Mission Inn Resort.
The Spiders shot an 18-over 302 on Saturday, improving on their first round score by four shots and overtaking Rhode Island to sit in fifth place at 40-over 608 entering Sunday's final round.
The Spiders closed within six shots of fourth-place St. Bonaventure (602) and seven shots of third-place Temple (601). Three-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Charlotte is in first place at 572 and Xavier is in second at 588.
The Spiders will be looking for their eighth top-5 finish in as many Atlantic 10 Championship appearances. Richmond's best finish at the A-10 Championship is third place.
"We played a little better as a team today and we were able to move up the leaderboard," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We're in position to finish as high as third with a strong round tomorrow."
Richmond sophomore Michael Shrader is tied for 14th at 8-over-par 150, following his opening-round 73 with a 6-over 77 in the second round.
Senior Tim Courtney shot a 4-over 75 in the second round on the par-71, 6,887-yard course, to sit at 10-over 152. Courtney, who shot a 77 in the first round, is tied for 19th entering Sunday's final round.
Sophomore Sam Beach is in 22nd place at 12-over 154, having followed an opening-round 78 with a 5-over 76.
Junior Robert Lindstrom shot the Spiders' low round Saturday, carding a 3-over 74. Lindstrom had shot an 81 in Friday's opening round and sits at 155 in a tie for 23rd. Senior Lawrence Lessing shot a 78 for the second-straight day and is in 26th at 14-over 156.
