Kevin Grayson Selected To Attend NCAA Leadership Conference

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - University of Richmond rising junior wide receiver Kevin Grayson is one of about 600 NCAA student-athletes selected to participate in the 2009 National Student-Athlete Development Conference, which is underway at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
The conference, which discusses topics affecting student-athletes on their campuses and in their communities and also enhances leadership skills, began Sunday and runs through Wednesday at the Disney Complex.
A Richmond native and graduate of nearby L.C. Bird High School, Grayson is very active on the UR campus and among the Spiders' most visible student-athletes.
Grayson, who has twice been named to the CAA Football All-Conference squad and was the CAA Football Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2007, was voted as a Junior Class Senator for 2009-10, is an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has hosted a number of forums on campus regarding inclusiveness and diversity. He also serves as a youth mentor to a local junior high student in Richmond.

With 1,823 receiving yards in just two seasons, Grayson enters 2009 ranked eighth on the Spiders' all-time list, while his 129 catches ranks seventh. He reeled in 853 yards and three TDs during Richmond's 2008 National Championship campaign.
The NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference is structured to enhance the skill set and knowledge base of student-athletes. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from key figures in government and sports.
A video presentation will feature U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, (R-OH); Reggie Love, personal aide to President Obama and a former student-athlete; former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater; and Angela Taylor, vice president and general manager for the Washington Mystics on the WNBA.
Student-athletes also will discuss topics such as diversity, student-athlete well-being, substance abuse, personal branding and sportsmanship. They will work in teams on projects throughout the conference. Participants will also take part in initiative activities at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
Coaches, athletics administrators and program facilitators also will attend, along with members from each division's national SAAC.
Participating student-athletes were selected from more than 2,000 nominations from college and university officials who represent Divisions I, II and III, and fall, winter and spring sports.
