
Incoming Frosh Austin Reaches Round Of 32 At U.S. Junior Amateur

BEDMINSTER, N.J. - Incoming freshman men's golfer Nick Austin advanced to the round of 32 with a win in the first round of match play Wednesday at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Trump National Golf Club.
Austin was 1 up on Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn. in the second round Thursday, but Wilson was able to come back and go 2-up with a birdie on the 17th hole to clinch the victory.
Austin defeated Matthew Anderson of Tompkinsville, Ky. in the first round, going up by three holes with two to play. The James River High graduate had three birdies and two bogeys through 16 holes Wednesday.
The Midlothian, Va. native tied for 23rd after two rounds of stroke play to qualify for the round of 64 match play. In the stroke play, Austin shot a 77 in the first round and a 71 in the second round to finish at even par.
Austin qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship by finishing second in sectional qualifying on June 22 at The Federal Club. He will join the Spider men's golf team as a freshman this fall.
The Junior Amateur, a championship for amateurs 17 and under, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
