CINCINNATI, Ohio (By: Steve Gartner, MLB.com) - Padres starter Tim Stauffer has traveled from Triple-A Portland to the Major Leagues more than he's liked since he made his debut in 2005. But judging how he has thrown in his latest stint with San Diego, he's shouldn't have to worry about packing his bags for Portland.
Stauffer threw his third quality start since being recalled in a 7-4 win over the Reds on Thursday. But of the three, this was by far his best.
"The three starts that I've seen, I've seen a more confident demeanor," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I've seen a guy overall who's stuff is better than what I saw before."
Stauffer, a first-round pick in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, hasn't exactly panned out as the sure-fire prospect he was once touted to be out of the University of Richmond. But since he was recalled July 11, he's showing the Padres that he has the talent to succeed on this level.
