UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The women's basketball team will face the defending national champion UConn Huskies as part of the WBCA Classic over Thanksgiving break. The Spiders open with the Clemson Tigers on Friday Nov. 27th at 5:00 p.m.
Richmond faces UConn in the Saturday night game, with tip slated for 7:30 p.m. The Spiders' first and only meeting with the Huskies came in 2006, when this season's seniors were freshmen.
"We are excited to be involved in the WBCA Classic," said head coach Michael Shafer. "The opportunity to play UConn is going to be a challenge no matter when we play or how much time we get to prepare. I also know that it is going to be tough getting ready for a good Hofstra team in less than 24 hours after Connecticut."
Richmond completes the round-robin tournament on Sunday with a 2 p.m. match-up against the Hofstra Pride.
"No matter how we organize these games, we are going to face serious challenges every night," said Shafer. "Obviously, we now know that we will have more time to prepare to play Clemson, as we face them on the first night. "This is going to be a very good event for us and we are looking forward to the opportunity."
The Spiders return all five starters from last year's 24-10 squad. Richmond opens its 2009-10 season Nov. 13th in the Robins Center versus Western Carolina.
