UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Senior Kelsey Rdzanek tallied a game-high two goals as Richmond (3-4-1) downed Davidson (3-5) 3-2 Friday night at Ukrop Park. Freshman Shondel Archer added the other goal for the Spiders.
Archer scored the first goal of the game 11 minutes into the first half off a cross pass from senior Kristen Stalter. Stalter passed to the left side of the goal, opening up Archer, who then broke free from two Davidson defenders to give Richmond the 1-0 lead.
The Spiders struck again 10 minutes later after Rdzanek scored from assists from freshmen Emily Dale and Natalie LeClair. A cutting Dale broke to the middle and passed to LeClair who touch passed to a wide-open Rdzanek.
"Kelsey had a great influence on the game," said head coach Peter Albright. "We came out with great energy. We got off to a good start with a two-goal lead but Davidson responded with pressure and direct play."
Davidson fought its way back into the game early in the second half when Blakely Low scored unassisted in the 55th minute. Davidson then scored the equalizer in the 70th minute after Julia Calhoun headed the ball in from Callan Elswick.
Richmond responded seven minutes later as Rdzanek buried the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the lower right side of the net.
"I'm proud of the way we responded to the momentum shift," said Albright. "Davidson is a great team so this was a good win for us. I'm very happy with our performance tonight."
Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Pacheco collected a game-high six saves in the net.
Richmond wraps up its non-conference schedule with Longwood on Sunday. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
