UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Freshmen Shondel Archer and Natalie LeClair both tallied goals in Richmond's (5-5-1, 1-1) 2-1 victory over La Salle (6-3-2, 0-1-1) Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.
Archer gave the Spiders the 1-0 advantage early in the first half after netting a cross pass from LeClair in the third minute of the game. Archer has scored five times in the past seven games and leads the team with six goals on the season.
"This is a real character win for us. It was a very hard fought game. A win at La Salle is always difficult, but we kept our compsure and scored two great goals," said head coach Peter Albright. "Natalie and Shondel created lots of danger. Today is a day to be proud of our performance."
LeClair added to the cause in the 60th minute after taking an Emily Dale pass and scored in the open net after the Explorer goalkeeper mishandled the cross pass.
La Salle would score 10 minutes later, but the Spiders held on for their first A-10 road win of the season.
"Melissa Pacheco was very good in goal and Kristin Runey was a real warrior for us," said Albright.
Pacheco ended the game with a career-high 11 saves in the net.
Richmond returns to Ukrop Park Friday to take on the Temple Owls. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
