UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - The Richmond men's cross country team was ranked sixth in the this week's USTFCCCA Southeast Region Poll, which is voted on by selected coaches in the region. The rankings represent the highest for the Spiders in 25 years. Both the men and women continue as the No. 1-ranked teams in the Atlantic 10.
This is the first poll of the season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association. The Spiders have enjoyed an impressive start to the 2009 season, winning their first two meets - the Spider Alumni Open and the UNC Challenge.
Up next for the men and women is the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pa. this Friday.
The women are also unbeaten this season in same two meets won by the men. They are ranked No. 9 in this week's USTFCCCA Southeast Region poll.
Junior Tim Quinn and senior Jenn Ennis have been Richmond's top finishers in each of the first two meets. Ennis and freshmen Rachel Sykes and Jason Skipper were honored last week by the Atlantic 10 for their performances at the UNC Challenge.
