UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team hosts No. 3 ranked Virginia on Wednesday at Crenshaw Field at 4 p.m.
The Cavaliers (10-0) are off to their best start since opening the 1979 season 12-0. The Spiders enter Wednesday's game at 4-5 with all five losses coming to teams either ranked or receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Top-20 Poll. Four of Richmond's losses have come by one goal.
Virginia won the last meeting between the two teams 4-3 in 2007. Richmond's last victory in the series was a 1-0 win in 2005.
Junior Sarah Blythe-Wood leads the Spiders and the Atlantic 10 in goals (8) and points (20). Sophomore Katelin Peterson is third in the A-10 with six goals and is fifth in the league in points with 14. Junior Dani Pycroft is third on the team and ninth in the conference with 10 points and is seven in the league with four goals.
Paige Selenski leads the Cavaliers with 10 goals and 24 points.
Wednesday's game starts a six-game homestand for the Spiders, who host Georgetown on Sunday at noon.
