FARMVILLE, Va. -
The women's soccer team (1-3) fell to Charleston Southern (4-0) 2-1 Friday night at the Longwood Tournament in Farmville, Va. Senior Kelsey Rdzanek tallied the goal for Richmond.
Rdzanek gave Richmond the 1-0 advantage after slipping an assisted ball from freshman Shondel Archer past the Charleston Southern keeper three minutes into the game. The Buccaneers netted the equalizer in the 30th minute after a through-ball went past the hands of sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Young.
"It was a game of two halves," said head coach Peter Albright. "We went flat after starting the game with a beautiful goal. CSU clearly outfought us in the first half and went up to the 2-1 score. CSU is a very good team."
Charleston Southern tallied the game winner in the 42nd minute after a loose ball went over Young's head. Young recorded a game-high three saves in the net. Richmond owned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"We got a big lift from Kristin Runey and Kristen Stalter tonight," said Albright. "We created several good chances to score but ended on the short end. I was very happy with our second half performance but we need to play 90 minutes. We are making progress."
The Spiders return to action Sunday when they face Coastal Carolina in the last game of the Longwood Tournament. Kick-off is slated for noon.
