FARMVILLE, Va. -
Freshman forward Shondel Archer tallied a game-high two goals as Richmond (2-3) blanked Coastal Carolina (1-4) 3-0 in the final game of the Longwood Tournament Sunday afternoon in Farmville, Va. Senior forward Kristen Stalter added the other goal for the Spiders.
Archer netted her first goal of the game in the 25th minute on an unassisted shot from six yards out of the goal box. Stalter added the second goal on a penalty kick in the 37th minute.
"Shondel was electric," said head coach Peter Albright. "She caused lots of problems and scored two great goals."
Archer added her second goal of the game off a corner kick assisted from sophomore forward Emily Dale.
"Today was a solid performance from the Spiders," said Albright. "Senior forward Kelsey Rdzanek stepped into the playmaker role well, bringing lots of players into the attack."
Richmond dominated virtually every statistical category, outshooting the Chantileers 12-3, including a whopping 11-0 in the first half. The Spiders owned corner kicks by a 4-1 margin and freshman goalkeeper Allie Albright made her Richmond debut by collecting a game-high two saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Pacheco followed with one goal saved.
The Spiders return to action next Friday at the VCU Tournament. Richmond squares off against Eastern Michigan Friday at 5 p.m.
