UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team scored four goals for the second-straight day as the Spiders defeated Hofstra 4-1 Sunday.
"The team was able to put two solid games together and play 70 minutes again," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "That's really important for us to do that on the road."
Senior Sarah Blythe-Wood scored her fifth goal in the last three games and added an assist, while sophomore Kaitlin Peterson scored a goal and had two assists. Junior Dani Pycroft and freshman Margaret Ellis also scored goals.
Blythe-Wood scored three goals and had two assists in two games over the weekend. She leads the Spiders with five goals and two assists for 12 points through four games. Blythe-Wood now has 19 career goals and 10 assists for 48 points.
Peterson gave the Spiders a 1-0 lead 19:42 into the match on her 13th-career goal. Ten minutes later Dani Pycroft made it 2-0 on her ninth-career goal and Blythe-Wood made it 3-0 with 2:27 left in the first half.
"We were really able to generate some great attacking play through some great movement between our forwards," Lucido said.
Hofstra scored eight minutes into the second half to cut the gap to 3-1, but Ellis scored her second goal of the season less than three minutes later.
Senior goalkeeper Jacki Raithel made seven saves in the cage as Richmond finished the weekend allowing just one goal.
"Catherine Ostoich did an outstanding job for us on defense," Lucido said. "She showed great composure on the left side."
