LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Kevin Anderson scored 25 points and junior Justin Harper scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Richmond led by as many as 15 points in a 59-50 win at Bucknell on Saturday.
The Spiders wrapped up non-conference play at 11-4, matching Richmond's best 15-game start since the 1987-88 season. The only other time the Spiders have started 11-4 or better was an 11-4 start in 2000-01 season. This is Richmond seventh-best 15-game start in school history.
Anderson, fresh off a career-high 31 points in an overtime loss at Wake Forest, made 9-of-17 shots, including making two three-pointers for the fourth-straight game. Anderson, who is averaging 18.5 points per game, also had four rebounds and three steals. He is averaging 26.7 points per game in the last three games.
Harper made 5-of-10 field goals, including 2-of-3 three-pointers as he scored in double-figures for the second-straight game. Senior Ryan Butler scored 11 points, making three three-pointers and grabbing three steals.
Bucknell changed defenses all afternoon, but after leading 33-26 at the half, Richmond was able to open up a 15-poiint lead midway through the second half and held off a late Bison run to win its fourth game outside of the Robins Center this season.
Richmond shot 40.0 percent from three-point land (8-20) and had just 10 turnovers.
The Spider defense held Bucknell to 50 points, the second-lowest point-total for a Richmond opponent this season. It was the seventh time this season that the Spiders held the opposition under 60 points.
The Spiders are halfway through a four-game road swing and will play at Duquesne on Wednesday to open Atlantic 10 conference play.
