Niners Stop Spiders' Robins Center Winning Streak At Nine

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The 2009-10 Richmond men's basketball had matched the best home start in school history, but Charlotte spoiled a chance for the Spiders to improve to 10-0 at home for the first time ever by taking a 71-59 win on Wednesday.
Richmond was up 45-41 after a three-pointer by David Gonzalvez with 12:47, but Charlotte went on a 15-3 run to take a 56-48 lead with 5:25 to play.
Spider junior Justin Harper scored 24 points, making 8-of-11 field goals and 4-of-5 three-pointers. He also had six rebounds, three blocks and three assists.
Richmond junior Kevin Anderson had 10 points, while senior David Gonzalvez had nine and sophomore Darrius Garrett had seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Shamari Spears led Charlotte with 20 points. Derrio Green had 13 points and Javarris Barnett had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Braswell almost had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Spiders were up 27-20 with 6:32 left in the first half, but Charlotte closed the first session on a 12-0 run to take a 32-27 lead at the break.
Charlotte shot 42.8 percent from the field, while Richmond shot 38.0 percent. Both teams made eight three-pointers
Richmond (14-6, 3-2 Atlantic 10) travels to George Washington on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
