Spiders' Benford Earns West Virginia's Top Running Honor

That was the dilemma faced by University of Richmond long distance runner Andrew Benford as the former Ravenswood High School standout prepared for the upcoming 2009 cross country season.
''It really was a difficult choice,'' Benford explained. ''I was coming off a pretty good season the year before, but this was a chance of a lifetime and I couldn't let it slip past me.''
The chance? Compete as a member of the United States team at the IAAF World Mountain Running championships in Madesimo, Italy.
But, the choice made it necessary for the four-time all-state cross country runner to redshirt this past cross country season for the Spiders. A choice made correctly when the standout runner...
