UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Freshman Becca Wann knotted the game at 1-1 in the 86th minute, then powered home the game-winner with 17 seconds left in overtime as Richmond beat Saint Joseph's, 2-1, Friday night at Ukrop Park.
Wann lasered the game-winner off a feed from senior Carter Blair in the 99th minute. Blair sent a cross pass to Wann who broke free and beat two Hawk defenders for the open look.
Wann sent the game into overtime after heading a ball into the back of the net courtesy of an Emily Parisi pass with four minutes remaining in the game. After surrendering a first half goal, the second frame was all Richmond.
The Spiders kept the ball deep in Saint Joseph's territory, and notched seven second half shots to the Hawks' three. Richmond kept up its aggressive play, notching the only four shots in the extra period.
The Spiders outshot Saint Joe's 17-12, while junior goalkeeper Melissa Pacheco recorded five saves.
Wann led Richmond with six shots, while Erin Layne, Lindsay Wicher and Kristin Lescalleet each recorded two.
The Spiders continue A-10 play with Temple Sunday at 10 a.m. at Ukrop Park.
