UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - The Atlantic 10 announced its inaugural swimming & diving weekly awards for the 2010-11 season and Richmond freshman Mali Kobelja claimed Rookie of the Week honors thanks to back-to-back impressive performances to open her college career.
Kobejla has not lost since her sixth-place finish in the Spiders' opener against Old Dominion and UNC-Wilmington Oct. 9 in Norfolk, Va. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native competed in seven events over two meets and finished first in five -- the 200 back (2:05.06), 200 IM (2:06.97), 100 breast (1:06.33), 200 breast (2:24.19) and the 400 IM (4:32.78)
The rookie won all three events in the Spiders' 159-130 win over Georgia Southern at the Robins Center Natatorium this past Saturday, while her 200 IM and 100 breast times rank in the top-ten all-time at Richmond.
Richmond returns to action next weekend with a two-day meet versus Duquesne and James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The meet begins Friday at 5 p.m.
