The Game
After splitting a two-game Northeast road swing against a pair of Top-25 foes, No. 16 Richmond is back at Robins Stadium to host Towson on the Spiders' annual Homecoming Weekend.
Richmond is 40-33-6 all-time on Homecoming and has won seven of its last 10.
The Spiders have won two-straight over the Tigers and own a 4-2 advantage in the young series. Richmond has outscored Towson 87-28 in the last two meetings.
Along with Homecoming, Saturday's game also marks the official dedication of Robins Stadium.
Quick Slants
The Spiders are ranked in the Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 for the 47th-straight poll.
Richmond owns a 2-1 record in its first three games ever played at Robins Stadium. The Spiders moved into the $25 million on-campus venue this season after 81 seasons off campus at UR Stadium.
The Spiders imposed their will defensively at UMass, and thanks to a late TD pass from true freshman Montel White, stunned the Minutemen 11-10 on their Homecoming before a crowd of 16,421.
Rekindling the magic that earned it the nickname "Stonewall," the defense has allowed just 228.0 total yards over the last two games (was allowing 430.5 in the previous four) and has yielded four offensive scores -- two TDs and two FGs -- on the road to the high-scoring offenses of UNH and UMass.
Senior LB Eric McBride is the reigning CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week and is the CAA's third-leading tackler (11.0/game). The local standout registered 11 tackles, 2.0 TFL, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup at UMass.
McBride, who owns the longest active streak of consecutive starts in CAA Football (49), stands sixth on Richmond's career tackles list with 393. He needs 37 more for second place.
Senior CB Justin Rogers, regarded as one of the most versatile and explosive players in the FCS, is a three-time All-America and a nominee for the Buck Buchanan Award. He has 12 career INTs, 6 career return TDs, and currently leads the CAA and is No. 3 in the NCAA in punt return yards (18.9).
Rogers needs 64 more KO return yards for the CAA career mark (Villanova's Brian Westbrook).
Senior DL Martin Parker is tops among defensive linemen at 8.2 tackles/game and ranks sixth in the CAA in tackles for loss (6.5/game).
Richmond has an NCAA-leading 3 players on the "watch list" for the Buck Buchanan Award (FCS top defensive player) -- Parker, Rogers and McBride.
Injuries have plagued Richmond all season, and the Spiders played at UMass with 10 regulars either not dressed or inactive due to injury.
