Team Notes
Richmond's victory improved the Spiders to 7-0 following an in-season loss since the 2006 season.
Richmond also extended its winning streak over Big South Conference teams to 10 games (eight-consecutive over VMI and one win each versus Stony Brook and Coastal Carolina).
The Spiders surpassed the 40-point mark for the first time since beating Georgetown, 49-10, last season (Nov. 14) and the first time at home since blanking Hofstra 47-0 last season (Sept. 19).
Richmond scored on its first two possessions of the game for the first time since Georgetown last season (Nov. 14). It also marked the first time this season the Spiders did not surrender the game's first points, or allow the opposition to score on its opening drive.
After scoring 41 points today, Richmond is now 36-3 when scoring 30+ points in a game since 2005.
With the win, Richmond has won every non-conference FCS game in the regular season since 2005 (12-0).
Richmond turned Coastal Carolina over four times (season high) and scored 14 points off the takeaways. The Spiders have 21 points off the team's seven takeaways this season.
Individual Notes
Senior RB Tyler Kirchoff had a career day, rushing 24 times for 126 yards and four touchdowns. His previous career bests were 10 carries, 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Kirchoff became the first Spider to score four touchdowns in a game since former All-America and current NFL running back Tim Hightower scored four times versus New Hampshire on Sept. 29, 2007.
Kirchoff, who has scored at least once in Richmond's first three games of the season, now has 12 TDs in his career (all rushing). Six have come this season.
Senior CB Justin Rogers recorded the 11th and 12th interceptions of his career, moving him into a tie for third on Richmond's all-time list with Winston October (1995-98) and Taylor Lackey (1982-85). He needs five more for second-place and 12 more for the school record of 23 held by Jeff Nixon (1975-78).
Rogers' 34-yard interception return for touchdown was the third returned for TD in his career, establishing a new school record. The senior had previously tied the school's career mark with 10 other players.
Rogers returned two INTs for touchdowns in the 2008 season (versus Towson and Maine).
Rogers has scored six touchdowns in his career thanks to two kickoffs returns (both in 2007), a fumble return (2008) and three interception returns (two in 2008 and one in 2010).
Senior LB Eric McBride set a new career high with a game-high 18 tackles. His previous career-best of 16 was set versus Rhode Island (Oct. 20, 2007).
McBride now has 375 tackles in his career and stands seventh all-time at Richmond. He needs 15 more stops to surpass Troy Gray (1982-84) in sixth-place.
