BEALLSVILE, Md. - Sophomore Nick Austin shot his sixth under-par round of the fall Tuesday to finish the Georgetown Intercollegiate in a tie for fourth and lead the Spiders to a third-place finish.
Richmond was tied for seventh after two rounds Monday, but a 4-over-par 288 climbed the Spiders to third at 9-over 861, four shots behind second-place Miami (OH) and one shot ahead of Xavier.
This was Richmond fourth top-5 finish in as many tournaments this fall, including a victory at the Richmond Intercollegiate Oct. 11-12 at Independence Golf Club.
"We are definitely playing some quality golf," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "On any given day, all five guys can shoot a low number."
All five players on the trip shot at least one round at par or below, led by Austin.
The Midlothian, Va. native shot an even-par 71 in the first round, followed by 1-under 70s in the final two rounds to finish at 2-under 211. Six of Austin's 12 fall rounds have been under par and he has shot just three rounds over par on the season.
Senior Michael Shrader tied for 10th at 1-over 214. Shrader shot a 2-under 69 in the first round, 2-over 73 in the second and 1-over 72 in the final round. It was Shrader's third-straight Top-10 finish.
Senior Sam Beach shot a 1-under 70 in the final round to finish at 5-over 218 and in a tie for 23rd. Six of Beach's last nine rounds have been below par.
Freshman Daniel Walker tied for 32nd at 221 (74-71-76) and junior Brad Miller tied for 48th at 225 (76-70-79).
The Spiders conclude the fall season Monday and Tuesday at the Old Dominion Invitational in Nags Head, N.C.
