LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Richmond senior point guard Kevin Anderson was named to The John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 list, The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Monday.
The list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are the early frontrunners for college basketball's most prestigious honor.
These players and others who excel throughout the season will be evaluated and considered for December's Midseason list and the official voting ballot released in March. The National Ballot consists of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.
The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round during the NCAA Tournament.
Anderson, the 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, led the Spiders in scoring at 17.8 points per game. The two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection enters his senior year eighth on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,552 points.
The Atlanta, Ga. native has 83 career double-figure scoring games, including 27 20-point games. Anderson has 164 career steals, which ranks sixth on Richmond's career list.
Anderson was recently named as the No. 7 best point guard in the nation by ESPN's Jay Williams and has been mentioned as one of the best point guards in the nation by numerous experts over the past two seasons.
