Depth And Defense Propell Spiders To Blowout Win Over Tribe

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond led by as many as 28 points in its second-straight rout to open the 2010-11 season, this time a 73-49 rout of William & Mary Monday in the Robins Center.
After a 42-point win over The Citadel in the opener, the Spiders (2-0) used a 25-7 run to close the first half and never let it get closer than 13. Richmond's average margin of victory through the first two games is 33.0 points.
Seniors Kevin Anderson and Justin Harper led the way with 13 points, while freshman Cedrick Lindsay backed up his collegiate debut with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Lindsay played 26 minutes, second only to Anderson, and is shooting 75 percent from the field in his first two games (9-of-12), including 60 percent from three (3-of-5). He is averaging 4.0 assists per game and 1.5 steals.
Harper is averaging 15.5 points per game through the first two contests, shooting 70.6 percent from the field (12-of-17).
Sophomore Greg Robbins had 12 points, making 4-of-5 field goals and 3-of-4 three-pointers, while senior Dan Geriot scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Sophomore Darien Brothers had five points of 2-of-4 shooing.
Richmond shot 55.1 percent from the field after shooting 57.4 percent from the field in the opener. The Spiders defense has been even more impressive, holding its second-straight opponent under 50 points and under 35-percent shooting.
The Spiders had nine steals and three blocks, while holding the tribe to 34.6 percent shooting, including just 20 percent from behind the arc.
Richmond's depth continued to show with 32 points coming from the reserves, after the Spider bench scored 34 points in Friday night's 79-37 win over The Citadel.
The Spiders play their first road game of the season on Thursday at Iona at 7:30 p.m.
