Spiders Hold Fifth Place After Day Two Of Terrapin Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Richmond swimming & diving team continued its Day One momentum and climbed to the top of the Atlantic 10 charts in three more events as Day Two of the Terrapin Cup is in the books at the University of Maryland.
With 234 points, the Spiders remain in fifth place in the competitive eight-team women's field that also features Maryland, Villanova, Connecticut and Towson occupying the top four spots.
The Spiders' 200 medley relay of Mary Anne Lerro, Jill Smaniotto and Charlotte Brackett got Friday night rolling with a sixth-place finish in a time of 1:45.52 that ranks as the A-10's fastest this season.
Smaniotto also posted the A-10's best time of the season in the 100 fly, finishing 14th in 57.38. Nicole LePere was 16th in 57.54.
In the 400 IM, freshman Mali Kobelja was 14th as she clocked a season-best 4:32.44, which tops the A-10 season chart. Kobelja was also ninth in the 100 breast, putting down another season-best time of 1:05.52.
Brackett was seventh in the 200 free (1:54.60), followed by freshman Jessie Krebs in 12th (1:53.48, season-best). In the 100 back, LePere posted a seventh-place finish in 56.56 (season-best), followed by Hines in eighth (57.32) and Brackett in 13th (57.46).
Friday's session closed with the 800 free relay as Richmond's Krebs, Alexi Kuska, Michelle Johnson and Liz Cohan took 11th in a time of 7:40.88.
Saturday's final day begins at 10 a.m. with preliminaries, followed at 6 p.m. for the finals.
