Women's Basketball Travels To Hampton Tuesday

The Spiders (3-1) look for their third straight win against the Hampton Lady Pirates Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Hampton Convocation Center.
The Latest:
Brittani Shells scored a game-high 28 points in each of the Spiders' wins last week and was a scorching 11-for-19 against App State with a season-best five assists while grabbing a season-high six steals. Shells followed that standout performance with another, in the form of a game-high 28 points against ACC foe NC State. Shells also dished a team-high four assist and had two steals. Shells is averaging a white-hot 28.8 ppg in the first four games of the season.
Shells is getting plenty of help in the form of Abby Oliver and Crystal Goring with their 15.5 and 10.8 ppg, respectively. Oliver scored a season-high 19 pts off 7-for-11 shooting and a team-high 3-for-4 from long range against the Wolfpack. Goring followed Oliver with six points and a season-high 11 boards.
Freshmen Kristina Puthoff-King and Genevieve Okoro made solid outings off the bench with 10 and nine points respectively. Okoro also grabbed six boards.
The win was Richmond's fourth in a row over an ACC opponent and evened the series at 1-1. Richmond's bench outscored the Wolfpack, 19-9 and enjoyed 12 points off turnovers.
Shells moved into fifth place on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,526 points after dropping 25 in the loss to East Tennessee State. Shells recorded nine 20-point or better games last season, and has four this year so far. Shells also had 15 game-high performances last season, and has done so in three of the Spiders' first four games.
Shells received the league's first A-10 Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-best 34 points (a conference high) in the season opener against Western Carolina and then following that performance with a 25-point outing against East Tennessee State.
The Series:
Hampton holds the edge in the series, 11-5, but the Spiders have won two in a row.
The Spiders downed the Lady Pirates 77-47 in 2008-09, the largest margin of victory in the series, and won 64-46 last year in the Robins Center.

The Spiders travel to Orlando for a Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Central Florida. The Spiders play host UCF Friday at 2:30 p.m. then tip-off against No. 22/25 Michigan State Saturday at noon.
