Spiders Rout Jaguars 81-40 on Tuesday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. - Balanced scoring and a tremendous first half defensive effort propelled the Spiders to an 81-40 victory over Southern on Tuesday afternoon at the Robins Center.
The Spiders held Southern to nine points, the fewest points in a half for a Richmond opponent in the modern era.
Freshman Derrick Williams led all Spider scorers with 16 points, and also added five rebounds. Kevin Anderson chipped in with 11 points, on 3-5 shooting from 3 point land.
The Spiders shot for over 50 percent from the floor for the second game in a row and the fourth time in as many home games this season. Richmond is 4-0 at home and has won 21 of the last 22 games in the Robins Center.
Richmond's bench outscored Southern's bench 40-14. The Spiders were also tough down low and dominated the paint by outscoring the Jags 36-14.
The Spiders head to the Windy City for Thanksgiving and play Wright State in the semifinals of the Chicago Invitational Challenge on Friday in Hoffman Estates, Ill. No. 8/10 Purdue plays Southern Illinois in the other semifinal.
