Anderson Named One Of 30 Candidates For Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Richmond point guard Kevin Anderson was named as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for men's basketball, it was announced Wednesday.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award is one of the most prestigious awards in college athletics. To be selected as a candidate, the student-athlete must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievment for Staying in School. Eight finalists will be announced in January.
Off the court Anderson is a Business major with a concentration in Marketing in the University of Richmond's undergraduate Business School which ranked No. 12 in the nation last year, including No. 1 for academic quality according to Business Week. He is also heavily involved in the community with his teammates, including being involved with CARITAS, The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, The Special Olympics, The Arthritas Foundation and St. Joseph's Villa.
On the court Anderson was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American who led the Spiders in scoring at 17.8 points per game as they finished the year No. 24 in the Associated Press Top-25 Poll and as a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Anderson was already named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 List and is one of just five Atlantic 10 players in 35 years of conference play who has won the A-10 Rookie/Freshman of the Year Award and the Player of the Year Award, joining Jameer Nelson (Saint Joseph's), Marcus Camby (UMass), Mark Macon (Temple) and Kenny Green (Rhode Island).
Anderson will be looking to become the first Atlantic 10 player to win the A-10 Rookie/Freshman of the Year and the Player of the Year twice.
The Atlanta, Ga. native enters his senior season eighth on Richmond's career list in points 1,552 and sixth in steals with 164.
Richmond, which is receiving votes in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today Top-25 Polls, opens the 2010-11 season on Friday, Nov. 12 hosting The Citadel.
