
Spiders (11-3) Drop Wake For 4th Win Over BCS Conference Team

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Justin Harper scored his 1,000th-career point and finished with a double-double of 20 points and a career-high 13 rebounds as Richmond defeated Wake Forest 90-74 in front of 8,113 in the Robins Center.
The win improved Richmond to 11-3 with one non-conference game to play, having won five of the last six games. Richmond picked up its fourth win against a BCS conference team in five tries this season and its eighth win in the last 11 games against BCS conference teams.
The Spiders are off to the best 14-game start since the 1987-88 team started 12-2. Richmond has matched the 1953-54 and 1954-55 teams for the fifth best start in 99 seasons of basketball, including the third best start in 56 years.
Harper became the 40th Spider men's player to reach 1,000 career points and is now 39th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,011 career points, having passed Jonathan Baker (1,002).
Senior Kevin Anderson led the Spiders with 23 points, 4 assists and three steals. Senior Dan Geriot had 17 points and three assists and sophomore Darien Brothers had 10 points and three assists.
Junior Darrius Garrett scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots.
After playing seven of the last eight games on the road, Richmond improved to 6-0 at home with Wednesday's win. The Spiders have won 11-straight at home and 23 of the last 24 games in the Robins Center. Richmond has led by at least 17 points in all six home games.
The Spiders conclude non-conference play on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Bucknell.
