UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Mike Muscala made a turnaround jumper as time expired to give Bucknell a 62-61 win over Richmond on Sunday afternoon.
The Spiders missed three of four free throws in the final 2.8 seconds and made just one of eight free throws in the final 2:58 of the game.
Muscala caught a three-quarter court pass from Joe Willman, and with his back to the basket turned to his left and let fly a fade-away jumper that nestled itself off the back of the rim and into the net as the buzzer sounded.
Justin Harper led the Spiders with 19 points, making 6-of-8 field goals and all three three-point attempts. Harper battled foul trouble in the second half and played just 24 minutes in the game.
Kevin Anderson scored 13 points and Francis-Cedric Martel scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman Cedric Lindsay scored nine points.
The Spiders lost their first home game of the season and for just the second time in the last 25 home games. Richmond had shot 50 percent or better from the field in the first six home games, but shot 42.6 percent against Bucknell.
Richmond finished non-conference play at 11-4 for the second-straight season. The Spiders open Atlantic 10 play on Wednesday at home against Charlotte, the only other team to defeat Richmond in the Robins Center in the past two seasons.
