Women's Basketball Battles Syracuse Monday In WNIT Second Round

Richmond (20-12) battles Syracuse (23-10) Monday in the WNIT second round at 7:00 p.m. at the Manley Field House in Syracuse, N.Y.
Of Note:
Richmond cruised to its 20th win of the season with a dominating 67-49 victory over Delaware in the first round of the WNIT Thursday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Spider play at Syracuse Monday in the second round.
Camden, Delaware native Danielle Bell scored a season-high 15 points, while Crystal Goring tied a season-high with 13 boards and three blocks. Goring also chipped in with a career-best three assists. With the win, the Spiders improved to 7-6 in WNIT play and 4-2 over the Blue Hens.
The Spiders are making their second-consecutive and fifth overall appearance in the WNIT. Richmond holds a 7-6 mark in WNIT action. The Spiders received a bye in last year's tournament and won the second round game over in-state rival JMU, thanks to a last-second stunner by Shells. The Spiders eventually fell in the third round to Georgetown. Richmond made its deepest WNIT run to date in 2004, when it reached the semifinals.
Richmond holds an all-time record of 14-16 against Big East teams. The Spiders' last win over a Big East opponent was a 62-50 victory over Georgetown in 2005.
Richmond has beaten two Big East schools in postseason play--both in the WNIT. Georgetown fell to the Spiders, 79-65 in 2003, while South Florida fell to Richmond 63-55 in 2004.

Tonight's game marks the first meeting between the two teams.

Should the Spiders advance, they would face cross-town rival VCU at a date and location to be determined.
