Howard, McGovern Win Silvers At Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Richmond outdoor track & field team competed Saturday at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, Md., with Monica Howard taking second in the discus and Meaghan McGovern finishing second in the hammer throw.
The women finished eighth overall at the meet, scoring 24 points, while the men were 13th with 9.5 points.
Howard placed second-overall in the discus with a mark of 44.65m that was good for an ECAC-qualifying standard. Howard also was ninth in the hammer throw (43.80m).
McGovern launched the hammer 50.49m - a mark that was good for second place.
Also for the women, Beth Kelly was fourth-overall (and the second-fastest college runner) in 3,000m with her time of 10:16.64. Rachel Sykes was 11th in the 3,000m (10:34.95) and Emma Berry was 15th (10:41.77).
Stephanie Paradis was 10th in the 1,500m (4:47.79), with Alyssa Mankin taking 19th (4:58.83) and Lydia Morton taking 20th (4:59.14).
Amanda Caporelli was 13th long jump (4.96m)
On the men's side, Devin Cassels was seventh in the pole vault (4.12m), Chris Eccleston was seventh in the javelin (55.65m), Garrett Graham took eighth in the 1,500m (4:00.90), and Levi Grandt finished ninth in the 3,000m (8:54.72).
The host Terrapins won the women's meet, while Bucknell took the men's team title.
The Spiders are in action again next Saturday at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
