Richmond heads to Charlottesville Tuesday night for a midweek match-up versus the second-ranked Cavaliers at Davenport Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard live on ESPN 950 in Richmond.
The in-state rivals have not met since the 2007 season.
Junior LF/P Billy Barber, who brings a career-long and A-10-leading 23-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game, is leading the Spiders with his .425 average, 12 doubles and 40 RBI.
Entering the week, Barber's hitting streak is tied with three others for the fourth-longest in the nation. Only Garrett Wittels (FIU) at 31 games, D.J. Long (Delaware) at 28 and Jeff Cusick (UC-Irvine) have active streaks longer than Barber's.
Richmond has won seven games this season in come-from-behind fashion, including both victories over cross-town rival VCU. The Spiders have needed comeback bids in six of the last eight wins.
Senior C/DH Evan Stehle collected two hits in each of Richmond's four games last week and upped his season average 50 points to .270 on the season. Stehle drove in the tying and winning runs in last Wednesday's VCU game, then homered and tripled over the GW series.
The Spiders hand the ball to southpaw freshman Shawn O'Neill tonight for his first collegiate start. O'Neill is 1-1 this season with a 4.70 ERA in 14 relief appearances (tied for second-most on the team).
Richmond is back in conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Temple. The Spiders and Owls have met in each of the last three seasons with Richmond holding a 6-3 edge in that span.
