Top-Seeded Spiders Battle Temple Today In A-10 Semifinals

Top-seeded Richmond (9-8, 6-1) battle No. 4 Temple today at 1:00 p.m. at Rooney Field on Duquesne's campus in the semifinal game of the 2010 A-10 Tournament. The Spiders are seeking their fourth A-10 title.
Richmond brings a four-game win streak into the A-10 Tournament and holds a 7-4 record all-time in tourney play. The Spiders are 2-0 against Temple in the semifinal game. The Spiders defeated the Owls 15-14 in both teams' conference opener.
All-Conference Nods: Five Spiders garnered All-Conference recognition with sophomore Alexis Brennan and freshman Gabi Wiegand were selected to the second team, with Wiegand and freshman Kara Moschetti also earning All-Rookie Team.
Flower Power: Flowers leads Richmond in virtually every statistical category: goals (48), points (57), ground balls (58), draw controls (54) and caused turnovers (32). Flowers ranks 13th nationally in ground balls, and 20th in the country in caused turnovers. Flowers has registered 13 multi-goal games, 11 of which were hat trick performances or better. Flowers recorded her best performance to date at St. Bonaventure where she notched a career-high six goals.
Marrocco Saves The Day: Senior goalkeeper Erica Marrocco has been key down the stretch for the Spiders recording many clutch saves. Marrocco was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week after recording 20 saves over the weekend. Marrocco collected 16 saves in the net against Saint Joseph's, including saving key free position attempts by the Hawks. Marrocco ranks first in the A-10 and fourth in the nation with 165 saves on the season. Marrocco ranks 17th in the country with around 10 saves a game.
To Be The Best: Richmond's non-conference schedule ranked eighth in the country with five teams ranked in the top-15, and three of those five ranked in the top-5. Marrocco recorded a career-high 22 saves against Duke, which was just three stops shy of a tying a school record. The Spiders are enjoying a season-long four-game win streak.
Young Guns: Richmond's freshmen are getting quality playing time in its first season, with three frosh seeing time in all 17 games. Wiegand leads the freshmen with 43 goals and 13 assists on the season--which ranks second on the team. Wiegand scored a career-high six goals against GW earlier this season. Classmate Kara Moschetti also has recorded 13 assists on the year. Moschetti ranks fourth in goals (18) and points (31). Sam Stevenson has also had a solid freshman campaign, with 15 goals.
Should Richmond advance, it would face the winner of La Salle/UMass Sunday at 3:00 p.m. on CBS College Sports.
