HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Freshman Daniel Walker is in third place and the Richmond men's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Atlantic 10 Championship, being played at Mission Inn Resort.
Richmond followed its opening round 292 with a 290 Saturday to sit at 582. With three players in the top-7, the Spiders will be looking for their best finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Sunday.
The Spiders are 13 shots behind four-time defending champion Charlotte (569) and 16 shots ahead of third-place Xavier (598). Richmond's best finish in eight previous Atlantic 10 Championships is third, which they have accomplished three times.
"We had another solid round today," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "Charlotte put together a terrific round, but we are still in great position heading into Sunday. Daniel continued to play well and has put himself in position to win the tournament on the final day. That's quite an achievement for a freshman."
Walker followed his opening-round 69 with a 1-over 72 in Saturday's second round, putting him three shots off of leader Corey Nagy of Charlotte. Walker was in second place after the first round, but Charlotte's Olafur Loftsson shot a 4-under 67 Saturday to move one shot ahead of Walker.
Richmond senior Robert Lindstrom is tied for fourth at 1-over 143, following up his opening-round 72 with an even-par 71 in the second round. Spider junior Sam Beach is tied for seventh at 4-over-par 146. Beach shot a 1-over 72 Saturday after a 74 in Friday's first round.
Spider freshman Nick Austin is tied for 18th at 10-over 152 (77-75) and junior Michael Shrader tied for 32nd at 16-over 158 (82-76).
