Duquesne Blows Past Richmond, 14-7

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Adam McConnell went four-for-six and swiped two bases as Richmond pounded out 14 hits, but Duquesne scored 10 times over the middle two innings and beat the Spiders, 14-7, on a cold and windy Saturday in Pittsburgh.
Richmond (22-23, 8-12) had early leads of 1-0 and 3-2, then scored on a passed ball in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead, but the Dukes (11-37, 6-14) exploded for five runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth and never looked back.
After 80-degree and sunny weather Friday, it was 30 degrees cooler Saturday with the wind howling at 25 mph.
Chris Cowell, Cameron Brown and Victor Croglio each had two hits, while Robby Masser hit his fourth home run of the season. Brown and Cowell each extended their hitting streaks to 11 and nine games, respectively.
Starting pitcher Anthony Cafagna was touched up for six hits and seven runs in four innings of work and was tagged the loss (1-4).
McConnell, a sophomore is hitting .362 over Richmond's last 15 games, and upped average to .326 in A-10 play.
The rubber-match of the weekend series is set for Sunday at Duquesne Field at 1 p.m.
