UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The Richmond women's soccer team fell to cross-town rival VCU, 1-0, Thursday night at Ukrop Park.
The first frame was a defensive battle for both sides as each back line came up with key stops to offensive breakaways. Richmond was anchored by back Kristin Lescalleet, who thwarted numerous attempts by the Ram forwards to advance to the goal.
VCU found its chance in the 67th minute when Breiana White scored off a long cross pass from Molly Allen from 10 yards out to record the game-winner.
The Spiders had two ample scoring opportunities late, both free kicks taken by Lescalleet. Lescalleet powered the ball through the Ram wall both times, but the VCU keeper was there for the saves.
Lescalleet and Emily Dale led Richmond with two shots apiece, while Pacheco recorded three saves.
Richmond returns to action Sunday hosting UNC-Wilmington at 2 p.m. at Ukrop Park.
