Head Coach Latrell Scott:
Opening statement:
"Well, we got through the Virginia game. It's something we have been talking about for a long time. Now we just need to get ready for Elon in two weeks."
On how the team played:
"We're learning. I thought we rushed the ball fairly well in the first half. We made some plays on defense. The defense played well. I think Virginia started to wear us down a little bit in the second half but we were still in the game. Things happen and we'll be back."
On quarterback Aaron Corp's play:
"I thought he played well. He's what we thought he was. He is savvy. He's a leader. He made plays with his feet. I think once we get all of his tools back, we'll be fine. We were missing two starters tonight and when they get back he'll have one more guy to protect him and one more guy to throw to."
On Virginia's running game and Keith Payne:
"Keith is big and they wore us down and Keith just kept on churning. I would say that they hit us with a couple different backs but he was really the difference maker."
On his feelings coming into Virginia:
"I don't think this game was any different. I mean, we've all coached in games before, this time was just a little different. I leaned on my staff just as I have all preseason and there was no reason to be nervous. I feel like we managed the game well when we got into different situations. We'll take a look at the tape and see."
Junior QB Aaron Corp
On strong start to the second half:
"We came out on the first drive of the second half and I thought it was a pretty good drive. We got three points out of it. After that, we just couldn't seem to get a drive sustained consistently. I think that hurt us, and it hurt the defense because they were out there a long time."
On fourth quarter interception by Cavalier Chase Minnifield:
"It was a momentum killer. When I let it go, I thought there was some contact, but obviously that's not my call. Obviously, I was frustrated."
Senior defensive lineman Martin Parker
On difficulty stopping the run:
"It was give-and-take all game. We came out there with a game plan to stop the run--sometimes we stopped it, sometimes we didn't. We just have things to fix as a team as a whole. We can't be sad about what happened out there today. We learn from what we do, and we come back in two weeks and face Elon."
On Virginia's physical offensive line:
"As a defensive lineman, you go into a game and you know your technique and you know how to play blocking schemes. We faced offensive lines as big as that in the '08 national championship. Montana's line was as big or bigger than Virginia. We'll never use that as an excuse. That's why we stay in Richmond the entire summer -- to weightlift and to work out to be stronger and to be better."
On fact that team's last loss to Virginia came during its 2008 national championship season:
"We've just got to take it one game at a time. That year, we lost and we took it one game at a time, and we ended up winning the national championship game. Right now, we're going to prepare for Elon and go out there and try to win that game."
Virginia Head Coach Mike London
On the game:
"It was really important to come out and be representative of a team that is trying to improve. We're trying to show that we have improved academically, we have improved socially and we wanted to show that we could take one quarter at a time and play a game where we don't self destruct but rather score points and play defense. That's the improvement we're looking for. There are things we did well and some things we need to keep working on. Our goal for the season is to improve each time we play."
On the play of QB Marc Verica:
"He did a good job. He was able to throw the ball deep to some of our wide receivers and they did a good job catching the ball. He didn't try to win the game by doing something heroic. He stayed within himself and threw high percentage completions and moved the chains. If he continues to do that, he'll continue to help us."
On RB Keith Payne:
"He's a downhill runner. He's a big guy who is hard to tackle. He complements a different version of our running game. We started running off tackle, downhill plays and we tried to use Keith then and a couple times he carried the whole pile. This was a game where we could use his skills."
On a run-oriented second half:
"We could see that they were kind of wearing out just a little and we had to take advantage of coming off the ball and trying to establish a run game that would eat up the clock."
On playing the University Richmond:
"I graduated from there. I spent a lot of years there as a coach and as a player but we're playing for (UVa) President Sullivan and the Charlottesville community now and that's what is most important. But that's a team that has won championships with all-star caliber players. I'm pleased that we were able to play an elite team and win the game."
