UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The Richmond women's basketball team (10-5, 1-0), winners of six of its last seven, host Massachusetts (5-11, 1-0) Wednesday at the Robins Center at 8 p.m. on CBS College Sports.
The Latest:
Brittani Shells moved into second place on Richmond's all-time scoring list with a game-changing 30-point performance in the Spiders' 68-55 win over rival GW Saturday afternoon in each teams' conference opener.
Shells passed Kate Flavin, who attended Saturday's game, for second place on Richmond's all-time list for 1,789 points. The 30 points scored by Shells was the fifth 30 point game of her career, second of the season.
Shells' 21.5 ppg ranks 10th in the nation, first in the A-10. Shells is also shooting a scorching 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from long range. Shells is averaging 2.6 steals per game, which ranks third in the A-10.
It was Richmond's fifth win in a row over GW and improved to 10-5 overall, 1-0 in conference play. The Spiders have also won six of their last seven.
The long-range shot proved to be the Spiders' secret weapon as Richmond netted a season-best 12. Richmond shot 44 percent from three for the game. Shells tied a career-high with five makes behind the arc, while Abby Oliver followed with four.
Oliver had 17 points, and Crystal Goring put up another solid game in the post with seven tallies and 10 boards. Goring has led Richmond in rebounding in all but two contests and has recorded double-digit boards in five of the last six games. Richmond also recorded 13 assists and seven steals.
Freshman Kristina Puthoff-King suffered a season-ending knee injury at Towson Dec. 22. She will sit out the rest of the 2010-11 season.
Richmond is playing its first home game in a month after a Dec. 28 game against Boston University was postponed due to inclement weather in the Northeast. The Spiders are 4-0 in the Robins Center this year.
The Spiders improved to 6-4 in conference openers and won their fifth straight over home-and-home rival GW.

Richmond has won five consecutive in the series with UMass, and leads the all-time match-up count, 10-2.
