UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Exactly one month before the first pitch is throw in the 2011 baseball season, the University of Richmond was picked sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches' poll. The Spiders open Feb. 18 with a three-game series at Duke.
Richmond finished four games shy of an A-10 tournament berth in 2010, and suffered through an injury-plagued season to finish 24-28 overall and 10-17 in league play.
Charlotte, which claimed last season's regular-season title, was picked to repeat as the 2011 champion. Last season's regular-season runner-up Xavier was picked second, followed by Dayton, Saint Louis, Rhode Island and Richmond. SLU won the 2010 A-10 Tournament and earned the league's automatic berth.
The top six teams qualify for the A-10 Championship, which is May 25-28, 2011 at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J.
