Harper's 27 Leads Spiders Over 49ers In A-10 Opener

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Justin Harper scored a season-high 27 points, making 9-of-12 field goals and 4-of-5 three-pointers as Richmond defeated Charlotte 71-59 in the Atlantic 10 opener Wednesday.
The Spiders are 12-4 for the second-straight season and improved to 7-3 in Atlantic 10 conference openers.
Kevin Anderson scored 12 points and had six assists, which moved him into sixth on Richmond's all-time career list for assists with 349. Sophomore Darien Brothers scored 11 points, making 4-of-8 field goals and two three-pointers.
Richmond defeated Charlotte for the sixth time in the last seven meetings and improved to 7-1 at home this season, having won 24 of the last 26 games in the Robins Center.
Harper continued his hot shooting, which is up to 56.3 percent on the season (99-176). He has made 36-of-68 three-pointers (52.9 percent) and has made 138 career reys, which is three three-pointers from tying Curtis Blair for 10th on Richmond's all-time career list. Harper is averaging a team-high 16.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
Richmond hits the road to play at La Salle on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a CBS College Sports Regional telecast on Comcast Mid-Atlantic and Comcast Philadelphia.
