Harper, Anderson Combine For 50 As Richmond Storms Back To Beat GW

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Justin Harper scored a career-high 30 points, making 11-of-15 shots, including 4-of-5 threes and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Kevin Anderson had 20 points in Richmond's 68-58 win over George Washington Wednesday night.
The Spiders are 14-5 and 3-1 in the Atlantic 10 for the second-straight season and handed the Colonials (10-8, 3-1 Atlantic 10) their first conference loss.
Harper is averaging 26.7 points per game through four Atlantic 10 games and now has three double-doubles in his last six games. He is averaging a team high 17.9 points per game on the season, with Anderson, 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, averaging 17.1 points per game overall and 19.8 per game in conference play.
Harper is shooting 57.4 percent from the field on the season and 64.4 percent from the field in conference play. He is shooting 51.1 percent from three on the season, having made 45-of-88 three pointers. Harper has now scored at least 25 points in the last four games and is now 28th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,137 career points.
The Spiders trailed 33-24 at the break, but out-scored GW 44-25 in the second half to defeat the Colonials for the third-straight time and the fourth time in the last five games. Richmond and George Washington have now split the 18 meetings since the Spiders joined the Atlantic 10 in 2001-02.
Senior Kevin Smith, making his first start of the season, had big time windmill dunk and dished out a career-high 11 assists, the most assists for a Spider since Eugene Burroughs had 11 assists vs. Wake Forest on Dec. 19, 1992.
Dan Geriot had six points as he moved into 23rd on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,192 points, passing Tom Tenwick (1,188). Darien Brothers also had six points, hitting back-to-back second half three-pointers.
Richmond hits the road to play at UMass on Saturday in a game televised on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic; Comcast SportsNet New England and Comcast Sports Southeast at noon. The Spiders play at Dayton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU, before hosting Xavier on Jan. 29 on ESPN2 at noon.
