UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The Spiders, winners of four of their last five games, host Charlotte Wednesday at noon as part of Dream Big Day for local schools in the area.
The Latest:
Crystal Goring recorded her third double-double of the season but Dayton (12-7, 3-2) pulled away in the closing minutes to clip the Spiders (13-6, 4-1), 66-55, Saturday night at the Robins Center.
It was the first conference loss of the season for the Spiders and first loss at home this season. Dayton also snapped Richmond's four-game win streak. Richmond is 4-1 in league play and currently in sole possession of third place behind No. 7 Xavier (5-0) and Temple (4-0).
Goring led the Spiders with 17 points and 11 boards, her third double-double of the season, eighth of her career. Shells followed with 16 and Oliver added 10. Bilney helped out with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. It was the eighth double-digit rebounding performance for Goring this season and she has led the Spiders in most boards a game in all but three contests.
Abby Oliver was named the A-10 Player of the Week Jan. 17 after leading Richmond to wins over Rhody and UMass. Oliver scored a season-high 24 points in the win over the Rams, and netted a career-best 10 field goals.
The Series:
Richmond is 1-6 all-time vs. the 49ers and have dropped five straight to Charlotte. The most memorable contest came in the 2009 A-10 Tournament Championship game, as the 49ers squeaked past the Spiders, 59-54.
Last Time Out: Richmond was downed by Charlotte, 60-46 in last year's rematch of the A-10 title game. Shells led the Spiders with 15 points.
Up Next:
Richmond makes the first of three road trips to Philly when it takes on Temple Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
