Llano, a redshirt senior from Arnold, Md., was a driving force in helping the Spiders reach the NCAA National Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. this past November and finish the 2010 season with a 24th-place national ranking. His eighth placed finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet (30:29.8), not mention being the first Spider to cross the finish line, helped Richmond to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. He closed out his senior cross country season at the National Championships with a 44th-place finish and a time of 30:35.8.
Prior to Regionals, he finished third at the A-10 Championships (24:23) where he received 1st team All-Conference honors and assisted the Spiders in winning the school's first Men's Atlantic 10 Conference Championship. Llano gained A-10 Performer of the Week recognition following his 21st-place finish at the ISU Pre-Nationals (24:04.9) in October. That same month he finished sixth out of 387 men in the Paul Short Invitational 8K (24:01). In addition, he received Academic All-Conference Team honors for the 2010 season.
No stranger to academic honors, Llano was the A-10 Cross Country Student Athlete of the Year in 2008 following a successful season, including A-10 All-Conference performer, A-10 Championship runner-up and NCAA National Championship qualifier. He was also on the Academic All-Conference team in 2007 with teammate Jonathon Molz. It is no surprise that Llano's academic success has helped lead the men's teams to NCAA All-Academic Honors for eight consecutive years. For more on Matt Llano, check out his bio.
